We all went to the zoo today. It was a beautiful morning and it was also the last weekend for Zoo Babies at the Cincinnati Zoo, so we felt like we better get there while the getting was good. Alex really seemed to enjoy the time, though he seems more interested in human animals that the other kinds.
We’re trying a new way of doing pictures today as the old way was quite tedious. If you see pictures that you like, you should be able to download them by following this link (http://picasaweb.google.com/jluckhau/ZooTrip?authkey=NA5xyUri91U):
You can turn off the captions or pause pictures by mousing over the slideshow and using the controls that pop up.

As usual, we are a bit late in getting around to news, and this time it was a big one. Actually, it was THE big One. Alex turned one year old on Thursday, May 10th. The celebration on that day was very low key as Mommy and Daddy spent the day with the young lad hanging out with occasional spontaneous renditions of Happy Birthday. Alex did manage to get his picture taken by a professional photographer that day, but other than that there wasn’t much out of the ordinary.
That was because the big day came on Saturday when people came from all over to see the boy wonder for his birthday. The weather was beautiful, which was fortuitous because so many people wanted to see Alex that there wasn’t nearly enough room inside the house for everyone. Some of the highlights for the day:
- Alex got to swim in his very own swimming pool for the first time. He loved it! Splashing is fun, but not as fun as dunking one’s own head into the water!
- Daddy tried out his new grill and managed to cook about 15 too many hamburgers and 15 more hot dogs than necessary. There was just too much space on the grill that had to be filled.
- Mommy made an excellent cake shaped like Curious George. It was quite delicious.
- The entertainment for the day, besides watching Alex do his thing, was Cornhole and Bocce Ball. It’s amazing how long people can stand around throwing things at other things and still think they are having fun.
- Alex made it all afternoon without needing a nap, and he stayed in a great mood the whole time. The kid is such a ham. I wonder where he gets that from?

All of you with children know that bedtime can be quite an adventure. Sometimes you will get the sleepyhead that falls right asleep. Other times you’ll find yourself with an ornery little rascal that won’t sit still. You just never know what you are going to get.
One of Mommy’s techniques for calming Alex down is using the tried and true method of reading him a bedtime story. Sometimes though, it backfires and just gets him wound up even more. That’s what happened this night as Mommy read Alex The Grouchy Ladybug. I heard the giggles all the way downstairs and had to get it on tape. Excuse the video quality, but I didn’t want them to know that I was filming them.

I bet you all are wondering where we’ve disappeared to, aren’t you? Well, things have be down right hectic at our house lately and we’ve let the old blog slip to the back of our minds. We’ll try to make it up to you though with a few posts over the next week or so. We’ve got lots to catch you up on.
For instance, Alex’s grandparents have gotten him a new wagon and swing at their house. He seems to enjoy both of them greatly, as you can see from these photos.

But most of all, he likes spending time with his grandparents whenever he gets a chance!

More updates on what’s going on with Mommy and Daddy will be coming up.

Alex is 10 months old today, and we realized that it’s time for a new post!
Alex has been busy over the last month. He’s getting really good at "cruising" around the furniture, and he even figured out how to crawl. Mostly, he crawls Army-style, but if he sees something across the room that he really wants, he’ll pick up his belly and crawl on his hands & knees.
Alex inherited a rocking chair from his cousin Annie. It’s a good place to sleep or watch his favorite TV shows, like Lingo on the Game Show Network.
We celebrated Alex’s cousin Olivia’s 4th birthday (her first birthday in the US) last month.
He gets confused sometimes by Daddy’s brothers. They look like Daddy, but they aren’t him! This is Uncle Andy.
Since he’s getting bigger and now has 6 teeth, Mommy thought Alex might be ready for some more grown-up food, but here’s what happened when she tried to feed him beef stew…
A couple of days ago Alex got into the dirty laundry and decided he wanted to try on Mommy’s uniform.
He really wanted to be like Mommy, so he even tried it with a bra!
Here he is today, on his 10-month birthday.
See you all again soon!
