Daddy May 15th, 2007
As usual, we are a bit late in getting around to news, and this time it was a big one. Actually, it was THE big One. Alex turned one year old on Thursday, May 10th. The celebration on that day was very low key as Mommy and Daddy spent the day with the young lad hanging out with occasional spontaneous renditions of Happy Birthday. Alex did manage to get his picture taken by a professional photographer that day, but other than that there wasn’t much out of the ordinary.
That was because the big day came on Saturday when people came from all over to see the boy wonder for his birthday. The weather was beautiful, which was fortuitous because so many people wanted to see Alex that there wasn’t nearly enough room inside the house for everyone. Some of the highlights for the day:
- Alex got to swim in his very own swimming pool for the first time. He loved it! Splashing is fun, but not as fun as dunking one’s own head into the water!
- Daddy tried out his new grill and managed to cook about 15 too many hamburgers and 15 more hot dogs than necessary. There was just too much space on the grill that had to be filled.
- Mommy made an excellent cake shaped like Curious George. It was quite delicious.
- The entertainment for the day, besides watching Alex do his thing, was Cornhole and Bocce Ball. It’s amazing how long people can stand around throwing things at other things and still think they are having fun.
- Alex made it all afternoon without needing a nap, and he stayed in a great mood the whole time. The kid is such a ham. I wonder where he gets that from?

Mommy and Daddy both took a whole week of vacation after Christmas to play with me, and I got to visit old friends and make some new ones! First, I saw my old buddy Tyler. He might be more than a year older than me, but he’s still not much bigger than me! Aren’t we cute in our jammies?
Then I got to see Ella. We met before, back when we were little, but we’ve both matured a lot since then. Like Charlie Brown, I think I have a thing for little red-headed girls! My daddy and Ella’s daddy, "Barney", were fraternity brothers together. I’m not sure what that means, but Mommy says that she never pictured the two of them swapping stories about their babies back when they were at Sigma Nu.
Finally, I got to meet Daddy’s friend Phil’s daughter, Isa. For once I wasn’t the youngest. Poor baby Isa, she doesn’t even know how to sit up yet, but I told her not to worry, she’ll get there soon enough!
Don’t tell Mommy & Daddy, but I was kind of glad they had to go back to work so we could stop driving around so much!

Alex got a chance to make a new friend a couple of weekends ago, Daddy is just too slow with getting around to the pictures. This young fella with Alex is Tyler and he’s 17 months old. Alex is amazed at all of the cool stuff that he can do:

Like walk…

And dance.
And he can also feed himself and even do a little talking and sign language, but we don’t have any pictures of that. But if Alex has anything to say about…

Tyler won’t be bigger than him much longer!

Well, we had to leave Michigan this past week. Mommy’s new job has us moving back to our roots and closer to our families, but we are still sad to be leaving our friends in Michigan. We were lucky to meet so many great people during our time there, but we will do our best to keep in touch. Luckily we got to see many of them before we left. Here are some pictures:
There are many other friends that we will miss and who will be in our hearts, if not in our pictures. We hope that you all can keep in touch as we will do our best to keep in touch with you. Just remember, we’re only 4 hours to the south.
