Alex has his first birthday!

Daddy May 15th, 2007

As usual, we are a bit late in getting around to news, and this time it was a big one.  Actually, it was THE big One.  Alex turned one year old on Thursday, May 10th.  The celebration on that day was very low key as Mommy and Daddy spent the day with the young lad hanging out with occasional spontaneous renditions of Happy Birthday.  Alex did manage to get his picture taken by a professional photographer that day, but other than that there wasn’t much out of the ordinary.

That was because the big day came on Saturday when people came from all over to see the boy wonder for his birthday.  The weather was beautiful, which was fortuitous because so many people wanted to see Alex that there wasn’t nearly enough room inside the house for everyone.  Some of the highlights for the day:

  • Alex got to swim in his very own swimming pool for the first time.  He loved it!  Splashing is fun, but not as fun as dunking one’s own head into the water!
  • Daddy tried out his new grill and managed to cook about 15 too many hamburgers and 15 more hot dogs than necessary.  There was just too much space on the grill that had to be filled.
  • Mommy made an excellent cake shaped like Curious George.  It was quite delicious.
  • The entertainment for the day, besides watching Alex do his thing, was Cornhole and Bocce Ball.  It’s amazing how long people can stand around throwing things at other things and still think they are having fun.
  • Alex made it all afternoon without needing a nap, and he stayed in a great mood the whole time.  The kid is such a ham.  I wonder where he gets that from?

Click on the picture below to see a slide show of pictures from the day.  If you were there, it was great to see you!  If you couldn’t make it, we missed you and hope to get to see you soon.  There, that should cover it!

Alex’s new wagon and swing

Daddy April 19th, 2007

I bet you all are wondering where we’ve disappeared to, aren’t you?   Well, things have be down right hectic at our house lately and we’ve let the old blog slip to the back of our minds.  We’ll try to make it up to you though with a few posts over the next week or so.  We’ve got lots to catch you up on.

For instance, Alex’s grandparents have gotten him a new wagon and swing at their house.  He seems to enjoy both of them greatly, as you can see from these photos.

But most of all, he likes spending time with his grandparents whenever he gets a chance!

More updates on what’s going on with Mommy and Daddy will be coming up.

Alex’s 10th month

Mommy March 10th, 2007

Alex is 10 months old today, and we realized that it’s time for a new post!

Alex has been busy over the last month.  He’s getting really good at "cruising" around the furniture, and he even figured out how to crawl.  Mostly, he crawls Army-style, but if he sees something across the room that he really wants, he’ll pick up his belly and crawl on his hands & knees.

Alex inherited a rocking chair from his cousin Annie.  It’s a good place to sleep or watch his favorite TV shows, like Lingo on the Game Show Network.

We celebrated Alex’s cousin Olivia’s 4th birthday (her first birthday in the US) last month.

He gets confused sometimes by Daddy’s brothers.  They look like Daddy, but they aren’t him!  This is Uncle Andy.

Since he’s getting bigger and now has 6 teeth, Mommy thought Alex might be ready for some more grown-up food, but here’s what happened when she tried to feed him beef stew…

A couple of days ago Alex got into the dirty laundry and decided he wanted to try on Mommy’s uniform.

He really wanted to be like Mommy, so he even tried it with a bra!

Here he is today, on his 10-month birthday.

See you all again soon!

Snow Baby

Mommy February 6th, 2007

Mommy got to come home from work early today because of the snow, so she thought she should take Alex out to show him what it was all about.

Here we are before:

During:

And after our little outing:

Mommy must have looked funny carrying Alex down the middle of the street in blustery snow, because one lady peeked her head out of her door to ask if we were ok!  We were fine, Mommy’s just a little crazy!

P.S. How about those Indianapolis Colts? :)

Mommy left us… but she came home!

Alex January 21st, 2007

One of Mommy’s New Year’s resolutions was to fulfill her field investigation requirement for her EIS (Epidemic Intelligence Service – whatever that means) job.  So, when she went back to work January 3 she e-mailed her EIS director and let him know that she was interested in going on a field investigation "some time."   Guess what!  Two hours later  he called and asked if she was available to leave for a field investigation in Rhode Island the next day.  She wasn’t expecting such a quick response, but she couldn’t turn down something she had just asked for, so  she left for Rhode Island on January 4.

I missed her a lot, but Daddy & I had fun…

I got 2 new teeth- that was lots of fun for Daddy!

Daddy made me do tricks, like balancing toys on my head, which I guess was sort of fun,

And we watched the OSU game, but I guess that wasn’t really fun…

Finally, Mommy came home on Friday (January 19), and we got back to doing our favorite thing together!

Mommy says she’ll try to stay home for awhile now. Yay!  (That was from me and Daddy)
